Market Day Magic

Hi everyone
Yesterday was Market Day and the total raised was just over $1700! I felt so proud of everyone! All of you put in a tremendous amount of effort and it really paid off.
Thank you so much to all of the parents who supported you! I hope Mr Wylie has recovered from his long day!
Photos are coming and we will add them to the blog.
I was talking to one of our parents yesterday who reminded me that when we had our record market day two years ago, we also sold cheese rolls on the day which really bumped the total up. That makes this year's effort even more impressive! I had forgotten all about the beloved cheese rolls. Even more proud of your wonderful children!

Greetings and A Weekly Catch-up

Hi everyone
It's been an incredibly busy week and I haven't had a chance to add to the blog yet.
We are so excited about Market Day on Monday! Keep your fingers crossed for great weather. This amazing group of children have worked incredibly hard and should have a very successful day.
Come along and bring lots of change!! :-)
I am off to speak at the Southland Library Association's meeting this afternoon. My topic is, of course, Literature Circles. The association invited me after they read the article in the Magpies Magazine last year. It's lovely that a smaller school like ours still gets recognition for what they do to promote a love of reading.
I hope you all have a lovely weekend. I know it will be a busy one and I really appreciate the support you give the children.

WEEK 8 HAPPENINGS

Hi everyone
We're right into planning and preparation for the best Market Day yet! The children are learning many skills from identifying what will make the most money, organising their equipment and supplies through to marketing their products through advertising, etc.
We are also assessing our reading this week to identify our strengths and our next learning steps. This will help us identify specific goals and areas of need in reading.
Numeracy testing is also continuing. Looking forward to being able to share all of the goals with you on our blogs at the beginning of Term 2.
Thank you so much for the comments. We always look forward to them.
Have a great week.

New Widget

Hi everyone
I've added another widget - links to a range of games. Try them out and let me know what you think! Post a comment.

Exploring Comic Life

We began exploring how to use Comic Life in our learning today. Some of the children ran another workshop. Tomorrow they will work with small groups to teach them how to use Comic Life to show what they know.
Our two areas we want to show our learning in are Monarch Butterflies and our learning goals for ICT / Multiple Intelligences. We want to think about the Multiple Intelligences we are strong in and the ones we now need to strengthen. We are really looking forward to sharing these with you!

Another learning link has been added. At the moment it's separated by the colon so there are 2 links here. I need to learn how to add them to the blog so that they are in a column! My next learning goal. :-)
I've learned how to add a widget! Exciting stuff. You just need to click on this now and it will take you straight to the site.
Have fun learning Team!

Another busy week ahead Team!

I can't believe that there are only three weeks left in the term! We have a lot to cover in that time.
We will begin planning Market Day on Monday and I will also begin NumPA testing for maths. This is an awesome way of being able to know exactly what your next learning steps and my next teaching steps are.
We will also be running workshops on Comic Life this week and using this to show how to write instructions.
The first webquests are now well over half-way through. Some groups are almost finished theirs as they are shorter ones. These lovelies will be able to choose another one to carry on with or will be able to develop their ICT skills further using the cameras and iPhoto, Kidpix, etc.
Swimming got off to a great start. Very impressed with how hard everyone worked!
Think about what your goals are for this week everyone - what do you really want to aim for and achieve this week?

Happenings in Week 6

Hi everyone
Next week's a big week! We have athletics which is always exciting.
We are continuing our learning journey in ICT using cameras - getting to know the camera and using as many interesting techniques as possible. We will also use this knowledge in the creation of Comic Life pages.
We continue our learning using the webquests. We are also hoping to begin to set up our own blogs linked to our home blog - Team Room 8.
This will also be our first week of formal Peer Mediation training too. Whew!!! A lot to look forward to.
Have a lovely weekend.

HOLLIE HERE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi I'm Hollie!
Mrs Hughes is teaching us about the thinking hats they are really cool!!!!
By the way the thinking hats are here to help our thinking, especially the Blue Hat!!
Also the hats help us think differently like telling Mrs Hughes what we're on about.
Scott and Samantha go to Enrich so they are teaching us about Keynote, which is a bit like powerpoint so that rocks!!!! Taimana is also teaching us about it.

Wednesday Update on Webquests and Keynotes

Just adding a quick Wednesday summary. The children will add more to this tomorrow.
We are right into learning using webquests. The children are finding out how exciting this form of learning can be.
Samantha, Taimana and Scott ran a workshop on how to use Keynote to publish learning and knowledge. They are excellent teachers and helped everyone achieve success. They will be able to upload their Keynotes to their individual blogs in the next couple of weeks when these are up and running. Keynote is similar to Powerpoint. The difference is that it has many more interesting and challenging features. I will let them tell you more about this tomorrow when they add to this blog.

Welcoming new followers

Hi everyone
It was great to see so many people at the camp meeting last night! We would also like to welcome all of our new followers. We are aiming to have everyone in our class following. Grandparents can join also!
The children began their webquests today. Lots of excitement and fantastic learning. Just to hear the discussion among the children is very rewarding.
In the next few days, I will add links to the webquest site and De Bono's Thinking Hats. I have used both of these for many years with children and they are a great way of promoting thinking and learning that is very relevant, fun and interesting.
Don't forget to get those letters in if you would like to go on camp! By Monday if you can and I will let you know more information by the end of next week.
